Backpacks 4 Kids
- Did you know that the Franklin Pierce School District has the highest rate of free and reduced lunch in Pierce County? For many children in our immediate area, school lunches are the only nutritious meals they get, and they are hungry over the weekend.
- Backpacks 4 Kids (B4K) is a weekend food program that reaches these hungry kids. Food is packed each week into individual bags by volunteers and sent home with students on Fridays. B4K also supports eight community pantries stocking food and hygiene items. Pantries are located at the Family Resource Center, Brookdale Elementary, the Summit Library, and at each of the secondary schools in the district. Together, these pantries and food bags serve over 475 kids in Franklin Pierce each week.
- B4K is only sustainable with your help!
- B4K is fully dependent upon volunteers, gifts, and donations. New members are always welcome to the B4K team. Helping out is easy, and it makes a world of difference to developing children.

Volunteer
Wednesday night packing in the B4K program is a BLAST, but it takes a village. It takes 15-20 volunteers each week to pack food bags. Packing is very popular with community groups, so sign ups for all packing shifts are online. We also offer individual shifts during the daytime. Contact Kristin for the link to view the online sign ups.
