A Quick History of Immanuel Lutheran.
The Immanuel congregation began in 1920 with a group only large enough to fit into a small living room. The group quickly grew to 60 men and women started to use the auditorium of the Puyallup Public Library. One year after the first gathering they came up with the name Immanuel Lutheran Church... Immanuel means "God With Us."
In 1921, Immanuel was accepted into the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, and July of that same year, the first church building was built. That building still exists, and it is located at 2nd and 4th Ave. SE in Puyallup.
In March of 1945, the 125' x 150' corner lot on 7th St SW and West Main was purchased, directly across the street from Puyallup High School. This is where the fellowship hall stands now. Ten years later, members embarked on an expansion, and with over 10,000 donated hours, the current sanctuary was built.
In May 1966, the Education Wing was created and this is where the Immanuel Learning Center is currently located. Immanuel has been moving and changing for over 100 years. In March of 2025, Immanuel merged with Our Savior Lutheran Church. We are excited to see how God moves and changes our community as the Puyallup Campus of OSLC in the years to come.
God has great things in store for this community, and we believe it involves Loving God, Loving the People of this city, and Living Like Jesus. We'd love to have you join us on this journey!
