B4K Program During Covid
Sometimes sharing your faith means sharing your food! And even though we're adapting for the Covid situation, OSLC gets to keep on sharing food with our neighbors through the Backpack 4 Kids program. Each week October through June, we pack weekend food bags and partner with the FPSD to distribute them. Contact Kristi to reserve your spot on the Backpack schedule.
Did you know that the Franklin Pierce School District has the highest rate of free and reduced lunch in Pierce County? For many children in our immediate area, school lunches are the only nutritious meals they get, and they are hungry over the weekend.
Backpacks 4 Kids (B4K) is a weekend feeding program that reaches these hungry kids. Food is packed each week by volunteers, placed into individual bags, and sent home with students on Friday. Each week during the school year, we serve over 300 kids in Franklin Pierce. B4K is only sustainable with your help! B4K is fully dependent upon volunteers, gifts, and donations. New members are always welcome to the B4K team. Helping out is easy, and it makes a world of difference to developing children. Here are some ways you can help: 1. Volunteer!! Wednesday night packing in the B4K program is a BLAST, but it takes a village. It takes 12-15 volunteers each week to pack the food bags. Packing shifts are very popular with community groups, so sign ups for all packing shifts are online. Contact Kristi for the link to view the online, sign up sheets. 2. Give Cash for food purchase.
3. Donate food in the church lobby. Wish List: Food items that are child friendly, easy to use and open with no preparation... **items of greatest need.
4. Host a food drive with your team, club, workplace or neighborhood (contact Kristi for available months) Thanks for your support! |
