You may have heard on the local news or national media that the CDC has moved Pierce County to a “high” community level of COVID-19. The CDC website notes that this move triggers a strong recommendation for people to wear face coverings when gathering.

However, according to our Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department, the local data set indicates that we are still at a “medium” community level. The explanation is that the CDC and Pierce County use two different COVID-19 data sets to determine community levels. As a result, they encourage:

if you are sick, stay home,
hand hygiene,
wearing a face covering in crowded public spaces,
regular personal COVID-19 testing, and
get your vaccination/booster.
